"Quick Study: Money and Happiness Under the Microscope"

is the title of this article by Laura Rowley on Yahoo! Finance today. Mostly well-known stuff - to me at least. I like the way it ends:
"...Thomas Carlyle once said, "There is something higher than happiness, and that is blessedness.""
I would agree, except I would reword "blessedness" as "bliss", to take away the "taint" of theology. (Now I need to find out what he could have meant by blessedness!)

PS: Wikipedia tells me that Carlyle heavily influenced the American Trascendentalist movement (the philosophy of Emerson, Thoreau et al.). Based on that anecdotal evidence, I don't think he would have a big issue with my rewording of blessedness as bliss.
