Gawaar-Batata in Slow Cooker
Gawaar-Batata is one of my favorite Marathi dishes. Gawaar (also spelled as Goovar) is a type of green bean. I had not connected that the Gawaar I knew and loved was related to Guar Gum, that ubiquitous food additive!
Gawaar is very tough and takes a long time to cook. I thought the slow cooker might work out. And it did.

- 1 packet frozen Gawaar
- about equal volume potatoes, diced small
- 1 1/4 cups water
- gur (alternatively sugar)
- 1 heaping tbsp Goda Masala (alternatively Garam Masala)
- 2 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric
